TEACHING CAREER

David taught in a full time capacity firstly as a lecturer in a College of Education in London in the 1970s, then as Head of Music in Whitley Bay High School, and then as Senior Lecturer at Newcastle College for many years. Never did he lose touch with his performing career in these years and eventually in 1991 he decided to make the break with full time education and tread the uncertain path of the self employed free lance musician.

Since then he has had a distinguished career as a piano teacher, nurturing many young pianists and sending them on their way to conservatoire or university. From 2004 until 2013 he was Head of Keyboard Studies at the Weekend School at the Sage Gateshead, where he trained many talented young pianists and helped them gain places at conservatoire and university. He also devised the the music language syllabus and was instrumental in ensuring that his students arrived at university and conservatoire with an exceptionally advanced theoretical musical knowledge.

He has also taught many of the young pianists at Newcastle University where he is currently Head of Keyboard Studies, and has been since 2002. He has taught here at undergraduate and post graduate level and has devised the syllabus for the undergraduate pianists.
