ST MARY"S CONCERT SERIES

Following on from the huge success of last year's concert series in St Mary's,this season features five concerts held between January and June .Miranda Wright's fabulous singers return with a really stunning commemoration and reflection on the First World War in 'The Lads in their Hundreds' .This was first showcased in Jesmond in November. It was a very memorable evening still being talked about by all who were there. Be prepared to be awed and very moved by this portrayal of that terrible war, using the poetry and songs of many of those killed in it or maimed by it.
Bradley Creswick, Royal Northern Sinfonia leader extraordinaire makes his third appearance in the series. Be prepared to be wowed wooed and entertained!
Eileen Bown joins David Murray on two pianos for an evening featuring two of the most sensational pieces of the twentieth century: Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, and Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, a score which is as shocking and outrageous today as it was in Paris in 1913, where it caused a riot.
The New Generation Artists are a showcase of stunning talent from across the North East beautiful singing, virtuoso piano playing and stunning clarinet playing make this an impressive mix.
Finally Bishopwearmouth Choral Society finish off the season with a mix of George Gershwin Jerome Kern and The Carpenters, all lovingly arranged over many years by their conductor David Murray. Accompanied by piano and strings this is an evening of pure indulgence - enjoy!
This is a stunning series and I'm very proud to be associated with it, bringing as it does classical music of the highest standards right into the centre of Whitley Bay, where I have lived and worked now for many years.
